See, what happened is this…right around 5:15 Kuntry Girl got up to take her crazy dogs out. I know it was 5:15 'cause the sky was already getting light and I could hear the birds chirping. Plus, during the week, this is about the time that I usually get my breakfast…although I do have to wait until after those pesky dogs get fed. On the weekend, though, I usually eat my breakfast around 6:30 or so. Not a big deal, but this morning I was ready to eat and get my day started! I guess Kuntry Girl didn’t feel the same way though, ‘cause I heard her muttering something along the lines of, “It’s not time to be up yet!” She went back in the house without feeding the dogs or me! The nerve! I think she thought she could sneak back in, ‘cause I wasn’t in the front corral and didn’t see her. Ha…doesn’t she know that horses have extra special senses?! Duh! I know where she is and what she’s doing at ALL times.
“Well, hmph”, I thought. “I guess I’ll just hang out here and enjoy the morning 'till she gets back up”. But she was taking FOREVER! I think a whole half hour probably went by! Aargh! This was so unfair. And it’s also unfair that she put such a heavy-duty latch on the tack room door…otherwise, I could just feed myself and she wouldn’t even have to come out here! And come to think of it…I also wouldn’t have to get that darn fly mask thingy put on my head before I get my breakfast. What a great solution! But alas, that’s just a horsey daydream…I know she would never trust me to manage my portion control if left to my own devices.
So anyway, after that long half hour went by, I decided to take matters into my own hooves and give Kuntry Girl a little wake up call. I’m pretty good about making myself “known” around here. I think it’s the Arab in me…I’m just not afraid to communicate my needs to the humans. *Shrug*
So here’s what I did…being the smart guy that I am, I’ve discovered that if I hit the wall of my loafing shed “just so” it will make this dull thud that Kuntry Girl can hear from the house. Now, under normal circumstances, this might not be enough to wake Kuntry Girl up…she tends to be a pret-ty heavy sleeper. But the reason that my plan was so genius is that I know those watchdogs of hers always have one ear open, even when they’re sleeping. So even if my “thudding” doesn’t wake her up, I know it will wake up those Weimaraners. And they will start barking. Ha…mission accomplished. It only took a few well-timed thuds and then I saw Kuntry Girl poke her head through the curtains of her bedroom window. My head perked up and as soon as we made eye contact, I let her know I really meant business by throwing my head up really high and prancing around my pasture. By the way, this is something that’s very effective when communicating with the humans.
It wasn’t long after this that I was happily munching on my breakfast. I just love my Kuntry Girl. She’s so cooperative. ;)

You have your Kuntry Girl trained so well! I totally understand the thumping noises, my 2 crazy horses do it to me all the time! But I don't have crazy Weimy's, I have crazy Aussie's! I think they have become immune to the thumping, so they don't bark anymore, don't you think the Weimy's will eventually give up?
ReplyDeleteLucky for my ponies they don't even have work with the dog at my house. Midori (or Miss Piggy as we affectionately call her) is about 100 ft from our bedroom window and likes to let us know when it's breakfast time. She's usually my alarm on the weekends. Yesterday she was kind enough to wait until 9 though! Good pony!
ReplyDeleteCaspian, you are quite the character! Love your new blog!
Hi Caspian, It's nice to hear your voice and get to know you.
ReplyDeleteI hope you aren't too busy to write often. It will be fun to follow your training.
Someday Wa mare will have this to look forward to! For now I have to rely on someone else and i hear that they are sleepy heads and make her wait a few hours longer than I would...she really whinnys at them... they have told me.
ReplyDeleteGood for you Caspian...training the humans is what it is all about~
