And really, it did. At first, I wasn't too sure what this new gal was all about, but I always say that anyone yielding carrots at least deserves a chance.
She started by checking me out all over; she lifted my feet, checked my teeth, all sorts of stuff! She noticed that I have a bit of a sway back and showed Kuntry Girl a few things that she could do to get me to start strengthening my back muscles, like tickling my belly and pushing her thumbs next to my tail.
Next, she asked my mom what she wanted to work on tonight and what our goals are. Being that I was still pretty green when Kuntry Girl adpoted me, I had a feeling that we would probably be starting from the ground up. She's already been working with me on a lot of things like desensitizing and respecting her space, but there's still a lot for us to work on. So tonight we started with longeing.
First my trainer worked with me...got me going in both directions at a walk and a trot. Sometimes, though, I got a little off track and wasn't really sure what I was supposed to be doing. She was really good about firmly reminding me to focus and just take it easy. Which I did for awhile, but then I decided that I wanted to get out some energy and so I let 'er rip! I was sure flying! Trainer Jamie let me run really fast for a little bit, but then reminded me what we were there for. It didn't take me long to figure out what she was expecting. I'm kinda smart...
Then, it was my mom's turn to stand at the end of the longe line. All in all, I'd say she did pretty good, but to be honest, I think she has a little practicing to do. She did really well longeing me counter clockwise, but she was a little stiff going clockwise. Silly Kuntry Girl. I totally showed her up, because I really wasn't stiff in either direction.
So this is what my mom and I will work on for the next week and a half or so. Then, we will have another session with Trainer Jamie, where we will build on what we learned today.
P.S. My mom says to tell you all that she really likes this trainer a lot. When we were done with our session, I got to eat my dinner while they chit-chatted about all things horses. Saddle types, bareback riding, hoof care, my sweet itch issue, all sorts of stuff. I can tell that my mom is going to learn a lot from her and I'm excited to strengthen our relationship as she gets more and more confident in communicating with me.
P.P.S. Sorry that we didn't get any pictures tonight! Maybe my mom can talk Kuntry Boy into getting some this weekend 'cause he's going to be in town for a few days. I'm excited to show off for him!

What exciting news Caspian! You will learn so much! I don't know what I would have done, if I hadn't hired a trainer! They are so much help!! I was doing ok, until we bought Fritzy. It's a lot of work!!

ReplyDeleteWashashe mare here Caspian handsome,
ReplyDeleteMy girl Kacy was just saying she missed Lunging me since ther in not an arena here where we board. But, she actully got me out the other day to lunge me in a freshly tilled area the barn owner made for us...but I hated it and the fact I had all that equiptment on and the ground was NOT even for my hooves...so I let er' rip with the biggest BUCKS and KICKS and JUMPS I could for my girl to see!! She was astounded!
YOU..on the other hoof, snort snort, have a lovley even footed space to trot in I am told. You will have a good time with your trainer and your Kuntry girl there if you must lunge or do circles..Good on ya Caspian! Whinny-Snort!
